The Daffy Mandocello is based on the Stella-style 12-string guitar, which is a copy of the great Leadbelly’s guitar. It features a tailpiece, rope binding, slotted headstock and a 27 3/8″ scale. The large sound chamber and larger scale length give a deep rich sound, as this instrument is ‘tuned down’ a tone and a half, with the normal E-strings being tuned to a C#. The Mandocello has the same body but may have a 24.9″ scale and thinner neck if required. This instrument is also available as a 12-string guitar:
